Emily Blunt In Talks For ‘Mary Poppins’ Sequel?

British actress Emily Blunt is in talks to portray beloved nanny Mary Poppins in a planned sequel to Julie Andrews’ Disney movie musical. Studio bosses recently announced plans to give the character a revamp in a new film, to be directed by Chicago filmmaker Rob Marshall, with a story set 20 years after Andrews’ classic 1964 musical.
And now, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter the pregnant Sicario actress is the top choice to take on the role, but the deal has yet to be finalised due to scheduling as Blunt is expecting her second child with husband John Krasinski. If she signs on, Blunt will be reunited with her Into The Woods director, Marshall, and producers John DeLuca and Marc Platt.
The new instalment of Mary Poppins will be adapted from author P.L. Travers’ children’s book series, and will feature Mary’s other adventures with the Banks family, who hire her as a nanny, according to Entertainment Weekly. Ironically, Blunt’s The Devil Wears Prada co-star Anne Hathaway was also rumoured to be a top choice for the role, but she shot down the reports and insisted her pal Blunt was the right choice for the part.
Hathaway previously told Entertainment Tonight, “No one’s talked to me about it… I feel like she’s (Blunt) going to get it – she’s British!”
And Julie Andrews has given both Blunt and Hathaway her blessing to tackle Poppins, tell America’s Today show last year, “I’m kind of interested in it. It’s not going to be a recreation of the original… and after 50 years since it was made, it’s about time, I guess. “Anne sings wonderfully and she’s so talented, she can do anything! And Emily, whom I adore, also (sic).”

Emily Blunt Spooked By Shark On Honeymoon

Actress Emily Blunt Almost Passed Out Underwater On Her Honeymoon As She Was So Terrified When She Came Face-to-face With A Shark.
The British beauty married US star John Krasinski in 2010, and they enjoyed a luxury holiday afterwards. To make their time away extra special John convinced his new wife to give scuba diving a try, but she took a lot of convincing as she was intensely worried about sharks. After John made her see they would never come face-to-face with such a creature she gave it a go – and things went downhill.
“I know every shark looks like Jaws, but these really look like Jaws and they’re huge… and they swim very close,” John told talk show host Ellen Degeneres. “Emily never wanted to learn scuba diving and I was like, ‘We’ll never get into trouble with sharks.’ All of a sudden one broke off from the circle and started swimming behind us. I saw it and Emily didn’t. He started to charge Emily, so my decision was, ‘If I spook her and she moves a lot, he might bite her.’ I just let it ride. “(When she realised how close it was to her) air bubbles came out, she kind of passed out under water. All of her air just went to the top, it was pretty scary.”
Luckily Emily managed to recover and wasn’t taken ill, and after the incident things did improve. Especially touching was a moment the 32-year-old star enjoyed with another underwater critter. “A sea turtle that came up, I’m not kidding, put his arm around her and then started petting her head. He hugged her,” John laughed. “It was like he knew she had had a bad day and was like, ‘Sorry about my buddy Terry, he gets real close on the flybys.'”
Emily didn’t hold the shark issue against John and they enjoy an extremely happy marriage. They are parents to daughter Hazel, who turned two in February and has really started to show her own personality of late. She’s picked up some of Emily’s UK accent, and she’s also experimenting with language. “She’s starting to (do) little bits,” John laughed. “Like when she’s looking for me, instead of saying, ‘Daddy, Daddy’ she goes, ‘Where is that Daddy?'”

Emily Blunt Suffered Sleepless Nights On Movie Set

British Actress Emily Blunt Suffered Sleepless Nights After Filming A Harrowing Scene For Her New Movie The Girl On The Train. The Edge of Tomorrow star plays a divorced alcoholic who spies on a couple she spots on her commute in the upcoming adaptation of Paula Hawkins’ best-selling novel.
Emily has been filming the thriller in New York, and admits she struggled to sleep after shooting a particularly dramatic fight scene. “I went home and I couldn’t sleep for two or three days in a row and it was odd,” she told reporters at a press conference in the Big Apple. “I’ve never had that experience as an actor before. I’ve usually managed to have a pretty good detachment from work.”
The actress goes on to reveal she looks terrible in the film, and her appearance scares her 23-month-old daughter Hazel. “I’m now playing the worst looking alcoholic in the world…” she adds. “Trust me – I can show you a picture. I think I frighten my own child! It’s that bad!”
The drama, which also stars Justin Theroux and Rebecca Ferguson, is due for release this year. The book is set in the U.K., but the new movie has been transplanted to New York, and Emily previously insisted she would be keeping her character British to appease fans. “It’s moved to New York but I’m going to play her as British, that was a decision Tate (director Tate Taylor) and I made recently,” she told the BBC. “I try not to get weighed down with what people are going to think of me. I’m going to have my own take on it.”

Emily Blunt has mixed feelings about Los Angeles

Emily Blunt has a ‘complicated’ relationship with Los Angeles. The actress – who has 20-month-old daughter Hazel with husband John Krasinski – currently lives in Los Angeles with her family, but has mixed feelings about the American city. She said: “It’s complicated. I love so much about LA and I hate a lot about it too. “I hate that it’s a one-industry town and that the quest for success emanates from every corner of it. It can be suffocating in some ways. “But I love my friends there, I love the weather and it’s a very easy place to raise a child. “A lot of time we lie outside of LA in the countryside, in a place called Ojai, which is lovely and offers more respite than the city.”
Meanwhile, the actress also revealed being a mother has changed her life in dramatic fashion. Emily, who stars in the movie ‘Sicario’, told Radio Times: “It changes you infinitely in a rather overwhelming way. “The best way I can describe it is that it’s like this lovely distraction that I always have. It’s always there and I love that feeling.”

Emily Blunt ‘can’t imagine’ being poor

Emily Blunt ‘can’t imagine’ not being able to feed her 20-month-old daughter, Hazel.
The ‘Sicario’ star, who is married to actor John Krasinski, feels very fortunate that she doesn’t have to worry about being able to afford to take care of their little girl.
The British actress said: “I don’t have to think about it when it comes to feeding my child. It’s not something that even occurs to me, that I wouldn’t be able to afford something to buy her something to eat. When she’s hungry, I have something to give her. When she cries, I have something to give her. And if you don’t have that ability, I can’t imagine what that would feel like.”
Emily, who recently moved to New York City from California with her family, was on hand at the Golden Heart Awards, co-chaired by Anna Wintour and Michael Kors, to celebrate those working with the organisation God’s Love We Deliver, which provides nutritious, individually-tailored meals to people in the city that are too ill to shop or cook for themselves (October 15).
She told E! News: “It’s everyone’s worst nightmare to become sick and not be able to cook. It’s just a really important way to sort of cement the move.” Asked if she is settling in to her new home, she added: “I love it.”

Emily Blunt ‘disappointed’ by ban on flat shoes

Emily Blunt says it’s ‘disappointing’ women have been banned from Cannes Film Festival for not wearing high-heels. The Into The Woods actress has spoken out after it was claimed a group of women wearing rhinestone-embellished flat shoes were turned away from a film screening for not wearing heels.
Speaking at the Cannes Film Festival premiere of her new film Sicario, she said: “I think everyone should wear flats, to be honest. “We shouldn’t wear high heels anymore. That’s just my point of view. I prefer to wear Converse sneakers. That’s very disappointing.”
However, despite claiming she was unimpressed with the policy, the 32-year-old star was wearing a pair of stilettos at the time but later changed into a pair of flats for the afterparty.
The festival is currently facing a backlash from fans protesting against what they see as a sexist dress-code policy after a group of women in their 50s were reported to have been turned away from the gala screening of Todd Haynes’ ‘Carol’ for wearing flat shoes, even though some of them were said to have medical issues.
However, the event’s director Thierry Fremaux has rubbished the allegations on Twitter, writing: “The rumour saying the festival insists on high heels for women on the red carpet is unfounded.”
But despite his comments, a spokesperson for the festival told Screen Daily that while they refuse to comment on the alleged incident, it is mandatory for women to wear high heels at red carpet screenings.

Emily Blunt almost lost “Sicario” role to a man

Emily Blunt almost lost her Sicario role to a man. The 32-year-old actress plays Kate Macy in the crime drama but director Denis Villeneuve revealed the role was almost given to someone else as people kept telling him the part should be re-written for a man.
Turning to Denis during a talk at Cannes Film Festival, Emily said: “In this film, you’d been asked early on if you’d write my part for a guy.” Denis explained: “People were afraid [of the screenplay] because the lead was female. “The screenwriter was asked to rewrite it several times.”
Although Lionsgate studio later came on board and agreed the character should stay as a woman, Emily explained she believes they wanted to recast the role because she plays a police officer. She said: “I found this character damaged and vulnerable. She’s struggling in the role of being a female cop. It’s not safe.”
However, the Into the Woods star admitted she has got to a point where she’s ‘become quite used to’ acting in films with few other females because of the rife sexism within the film industry. When questioned about her lack of female co-stars, she said: “It’s something I’ve become quite used to. It happens quite a lot on films. There aren’t a ton of chicks around.”
