Emily Blunt almost lost “Sicario” role to a man

Emily Blunt almost lost her Sicario role to a man. The 32-year-old actress plays Kate Macy in the crime drama but director Denis Villeneuve revealed the role was almost given to someone else as people kept telling him the part should be re-written for a man.
Turning to Denis during a talk at Cannes Film Festival, Emily said: “In this film, you’d been asked early on if you’d write my part for a guy.” Denis explained: “People were afraid [of the screenplay] because the lead was female. “The screenwriter was asked to rewrite it several times.”
Although Lionsgate studio later came on board and agreed the character should stay as a woman, Emily explained she believes they wanted to recast the role because she plays a police officer. She said: “I found this character damaged and vulnerable. She’s struggling in the role of being a female cop. It’s not safe.”
However, the Into the Woods star admitted she has got to a point where she’s ‘become quite used to’ acting in films with few other females because of the rife sexism within the film industry. When questioned about her lack of female co-stars, she said: “It’s something I’ve become quite used to. It happens quite a lot on films. There aren’t a ton of chicks around.”

The Devil Wears Prada is set to become a Broadway musical. The popular David Frankel-directed film – which starred Anne Hathaway as an aspiring journalist working as the assistant to a high-fashion magazine editor, played by Meryl Streep – will be adapted into a musical by Kevin McCollum, the producer behind the Rent stage show.
The Tony Award-winning producer – whose Broadway credits also include Something Rotten! and Hand to God – entered into a deal with Twentieth Century Fox in 2013 to turn their blockbuster films into musicals.
Kevin has been particularly eager to transform the well-loved movie – which also starred Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci – into a similarly successful musical, Time magazine reports.
The cast of the musical has still to be confirmed, but members of the original cast have previously suggested they’d be happy to return for a movie sequel and have also been linked to the much-discussed stage production.

Chastain + Blunt Confirmed for “Snow White and the Huntsman” Prequel

Jessica Chastain and Emily Blunt will join Charlize Theron in the prequel to the highly successful 2012 film Snow White and the Huntsman. Chastain is the latest cast member to have been confirmed for the movie to be titled The Huntsman which will officially hit theaters on April 22, 2016.
A few weeks ago, Emily Blunt was taken on the movie to play the role of the villainous sister of Ravena, a role that shall be reprised by Charlize Theron. Chris Hemsworth will also reprise his role as Eric, the huntsman.
The addition of Blunt and Chastain more than makes up for the movie’s decision to ditch actress Kristen Stewart, who played the role of Snow White in the first film, and also her titular character. Universal has yet to announce the character of Jessica Chastain in the movie but a triumvirate of three beautiful women plus Chris Hemsworth already gives The Huntsman an inside track on the box office.
The Huntsman will do away with the character of Snow White. Accordingly, it will focus on how Eric and Ravenna crossed paths long before Snow White became part of their lives. The story reportedly will have Eric searching for a stolen magic mirror that revives an old grudge between him and the Snow Queen. Since Snow White would not be in the story, there were reports that the dwarves will not be included in the prequel film likewise. However, Nick Frost, the lead dwarf character in Snow White and the Huntsman is returning to The Huntsman so there will be at least one dwarf in the film. It was not clear if the other dwarf characters will also join Nick Frost in the movie.
