Emily Blunt to Star in Rupert Friend’s Directorial Debut

Emily Blunt will join Rupert Friend in Barton & Charlie & Checco & Bill, a romantic road trip comedy that will serve as Rupert Friend’s directorial debut.
Rupert Friend also wrote the script, which he is producing alongside Aaron L. Gilbert of Bron Studios and Margot Hand. The story follows a downtrodden con-artist who teams up with a woman to show her the tricks of his trade. The woman turns the tables on her teacher, and the two embark on a long road trip, picking up a 10-year old Mexican boy along the way. They soon find themselves pursued by a Confederate newspaper mogul named Bill.
Emily Blunt and Rupert Friend previously appeared together in 2009’s The Young Victoria. Barton & Charlie & Checco & Bill begins shooting this spring.

Emily Blunt as Ms. Marvel?

Hopefully more female character films will be on the rise! After Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow portrayal in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, this will soon become a reality. Her character held her own in a male dominated cast as the only female combatant. I believe her screen time in both films helped bring other female teammates to the big screen such as, Wasp in Ant-Man and Gomora from Guardians of the Galaxy.
After seeing Captain America: The Winter Soldier, my mind started to wonder what would be the end result of the Black Widow, had Blunt taken the job? Remember she was originally cast to play the Black Widow, but because of previous scheduling conflicts, the deal didn’t work out. I also started to think about IF Blunt had taken the role of Black Widow, would that have opened up the doors for Scarlett Johansson as Ms. Marvel?! Missed opportunity, so sad
The more I thought about the idea, the more I started to like it. I mean, what’s done is done, and Blunt had little control over how things turned out, but I couldn’t help but flirt with the idea. I’m getting the inkling that Emily Blunt may have made a slightly better Black Widow, and Johansson would have made an great Ms. Marvel (her casting may have also helped catapult the project into gear a lot quicker). I mean, if you’ve seen the trailer for Johansson’s upcoming movie Lucy, it does have a Ms. Marvel feel to it, don’t you agree? (Besides the plot sounding similar to the film Limitless)
Thor and Thor: The Dark World star Natalie Portman hinted a while back that Marvel is definitely planning a solo female superhero film. With the most talked about superheroine being Ms. Marvel. With The Vision joining The Avengers 2, fans may also get to see Ms. Marvel introduced after all. She’s been name dropped by Marvel co-president Louis D’Esposito as a character of interest for a Marvel One-Shot and Hollywood talent. The most rumored name to come up is actress just happens to be…Emily Blunt. Blunt has gone on the record to say that she still wants to work with Marvel, so her getting the role of Ms. Marvel, wouldn’t come as a surprise if she got the part. Given her rising fame, Blunt would also be the type of recognizable (but still affordable) name that Marvel wants to have on a marquee. I think Scarlett Johansson is good as the Black Widow. Emily Blunt is a fantastic, under appreciated actress that I think would be great for Ms. Marvel.

Del Toro to join Emily Blunt in Sicario

After winning an Oscar for his turn as a Mexican cop in Traffic, Benicio Del Toro is heading south of the border again, as he’s nearing a deal to star opposite Emily Blunt in Denis Villeneuve’s thriller Sicario, multiple individuals familiar with the project have told TheWrap.
Taylor Sheridan penned the script, which follows a SWAT officer (Blunt) who travels to Mexico with a pair of mercenaries to track down a drug lord. Del Toro will play an assassin hired by the U.S. government to help bring down the Cartels, which are responsible for the death of his family.
Basil Iwanyk will produce with Edward McDonnell and Black Label Media’s Molly Smith, Thad Luckinbill and Trent Luckinbill. Villeneuve recently directed Prisoners and has had his eye on del Toro for some time, while Blunt is coming off strong female roles in Looper and the upcoming Tom Cruise action movie Edge of Tomorrow. The filmmaker is also attached to direct Story of Your Life, for which Amy Adams is in negotiations to star.
